Tall and always smiling – that’s the first thing that comes to mind when you meet Kae Sheng.
Standing at 6 feet tall, many know him as a gentle giant. But what many may not know is that this Johorean is actually a multiple scholarship holder with a passion for creativity! Admittedly, it’s a pretty unusual interest for someone who holds an Honours degree in Biotechnology. Not to mention that Kae Sheng is also a designer in CERC, besides being the Head of Marketing Communications!
“Drawing and designing have been hobbies I’ve always been interested in since I was young. That naturally led me to have an interest in creative thinking, which probably explains why I eventually became a marketeer. I enjoy marketing because with the ever-changing landscape of social media, it pushes me to think outside the box and be innovative to solve different problems every day.”
It’s exactly this mindset that led Kae Sheng to be selected as one of only four fresh graduates in Malaysia to join the highly competitive Commercial Trainee programme at Mondelez International – home to some of Malaysia’s favourite confectioneries, like Oreo, Cadbury chocolates and Jacob crackers! He currently manages international snack brands as an Assistant Brand Manager. His day-to-day tasks include building marketing strategies and coming up with new marketing initiatives to help the brand continue to innovate and stay competitive in the market.
“Overall, my experience as a Commercial Trainee was a very enriching one. It taught me many things that I have not learned before and pushed me to be a more assertive and firm person when it comes to decision-making leadership. In my current role, I’ve learnt how to manage projects better and work with other people as part of a team. This helps me to serve better collaboratively in church as well, with fellow brothers and sisters that have the same passion for gospel works. Of course, the creative mindset that comes from the on-the-job marketing training further strengthens my creative gifts as I lead the Marketing Communications department at church.”
