The Christmas Kids’ TV Show Returns with Final Instalment of ‘The True Story of Christmas’

25 Dec 2025

By Kristen Lam

Every year on Christmas Eve, when many families gather around warm meals and festive celebrations, Christ Evangelical Reformed Church offers something both joyful and meaningful: a chance to celebrate together while keeping Christ at the centre of the story.

“The Christmas Kids’ TV Show for the Family” delivers exactly what families expect from Christmas activities: food, a good show and togetherness. But it adds something deeper – the story of Christ himself, presented in ways that captivate both children and adults.

Drawing more than 100 attendees annually, this beloved TV Show has become a staple for many families. Since 2022, the show has been telling “The True Story of Christmas” through a four-part series: the birth of Jesus, His ministry, His resurrection, and now, in this final instalment, how the risen and ascended Christ rules His Church today.

This year’s episode, “The True Story of Christmas Part 4: Christ Rules Now!”, completes the series by exploring what happened after Jesus ascended into heaven. Through much creative ways of storytelling – from interactive puppet shows to live-acting of biblical events reenacted in a children-friendly way – families get to witness the Christmas story as a display of God’s continuous mission through His Word and Spirit in His Church now.

What Families Can Expect

Photobooth for families

While “The Christmas Kids’ TV Show” is primarily designed as a virtual broadcast for families to enjoy from home, the CERC Kids team also hosted a live watch party at CERC, located in Bandar Sunway meant for families who preferred a more physical experience for their kids.

From a vibrant and colourful atmosphere to thoughtful and interactive decorations decking the place, the energy on that day was one that was both exciting and inviting of deep reflection on the meaning of Christmas for the whole family.

The hosting of the TV show also spanned across the whole building, comfortably hosting all types of families – with a physical live-show for older kids on the First floor, and a cozier live-streaming watch party for the younger kids on the Ground floor. As parents chatted away with one another, and as children of various ages got comfortable, the lights dimmed and anticipation filled the room, then, the show officially began!

The Story Continues

The TV show first opened with a brief recapitulation of the Christmas story from parts one through three, replaying key moments from previous instalments to set the stage.

An Acts 2 moment, featuring the ‘Tower of Babel’

Picking up where last year’s episode left off, this year’s show followed the apostles after Jesus’s resurrection and ascension. The first scene featured a powerful moment from Acts 2: Peter’s passionate sermon about the risen King Jesus. His message carried both hope and conviction—declaring that Jesus is alive and reigning, while also confronting the sobering truth that humanity, in rejecting Him, killed the very King of the world.

The narrative continued through the lives of other key apostles like Stephen and Paul (formerly Saul), weaving through pivotal moments in the book of Acts. Scene after scene reinforced the heart of the gospel: Jesus is the leader of God’s people whom God has raised from the dead. Yet this same Jesus is the one we have all rejected and stood against.

“Jesus is the King and the leader of God’s people!”, repeated Pastor Vanessa, as the show neared its climax point after scenes featuring Apostle Paul. Through many compelling moments in the story, the Christmas message thus became strikingly clear to the audience: Jesus is the risen King who came at Christmas and now rules forever, offering new life.

The Christmas story, however, does not end at Jesus. The implications of the truths of Christmas portrayed through the songs and skit were thrown back to the audience before the show came to an end. “Will we repent and listen to God’s chosen King (Jesus), or will we continue to rebel against God’s King?”

A Ministry Effort

The TV Show production would not have been such a success had it not been for the CERC Kids’ ministry team who had been hard at work for months on end. From behind-the-scenes production crew to onstage actors and teachers – all of them were beaming with a sense of pride as they saw how all the children laughed and even at times, paused, to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.

When asked about the immense effort leading up to the final show, Teacher Samantha shared: “The Bible says that we should preach the Gospel in season and out of season, and that includes preaching to children even when they look so cute and innocent. They are still sinners who need to hear the gospel and repent from their sins, for Jesus is coming back soon!”

David Yong, who brought his two children, expressed his gratitude: “I’m really thankful and amazed at the effort the team has put into translating the Book of Acts into the Christmas context as well as in a kid-friendly way. It is really no easy feat.”
