CERC’s 15th Family Day
Posted on 2 Oct 2023 by CERC News
On the 31st of August, CERC had our annual Family Day at Kelana Jaya Youth Park! Following on the heels of our church’s Foundation Day, this highly anticipated event added to the festivities of CERC’s birthday. Together, all members, candidates and regulars alike, spent the morning enjoying life together as a family living under God’s rule in Christ.

As one walked around the park that day, one would see spontaneous basketball matches breaking out between the adults and youths on the left, and then see clothes hangers being tossed for prizes on the right. And just as one thinks they’ve seen it all, they’re pleasantly ambushed by Isaac Ng from Shah Alam Growth Group (GG) shouting, “COFFEE!!! GET YOUR COFFEEE!!!” and Christine Liew from BU1 GG declaring, “COME GET YOUR BUTTERFLY PEA LEMONADE RIGHT HERE!!”

For Roy (BU11 GG) and Kit May (SS15 GG), their favourite part of this year’s Family Day was seeing the church going all out to fundraise. The enjoyable competition among different Growth Groups was definitely a highlight, especially since it was among family. The different Growth Groups definitely got rather excited about letting everyone try out what they were offering and collecting money to give to church.
For Marc Miller (F4 GG), he enjoyed playing mini golf together with Reuben Chua and Joel Lo, who were from Puchong GG and PDGG. “It was tougher than I thought and I just kept on putting cash into it until I finally finished the course and we all got hyped lol,” he said. It was such a fun experience hanging out with people on that day. Tiong Nee, who’s responsible for many of the beautiful photos used in this article, put it beautifully: It was such a great chance to meet and mingle with people from different GGs and different congregations!
.
Food abound too. Clovey Lye (SS15GG) and Wei Wen (3KGG)’s personal favourite for the day was Emma’s lemon poulets which could be found next to the physiotherapy and health checkup booths (rest assured this writer begged Emma for the recipe as soon as she got home). And lets not forget the lamb sponsored by Mums and SS2 GG that vanished almost as soon as it arrived!
.
With the lively activities taking place at all corners of the park, there were of course those who opted for quieter activities like card making with F4GG, or just catching up with one another while sitting by the lake. But who could pass up the opportunity to join the ruckus and excitement surrounding Elder Joel Lee and Elder Mark facing off in an arm wrestling match?! Or watch in shock and delight as the even-tempered Bandar Sri Damansara GG Leader, Adrian Miller rocked out to “Numb” by Linkin Park?! The kids definitely couldn’t.

All in all, Chuan (Sunway GG) concluded that it was a fun time of being together as a body of Christ, using our many gifts to serve and love each other. The rest of the church agrees with you, Chuan. The rest of the church agrees.
For this writer, I’m reminded of the message Pr Robin preached on Foundation Day exhorting us to remember that as people with the privilege of sonship, the joy eternal belongs to a God who doesn’t deserve such miserable sinners like us to be His people. Therefore, I feel so blessed to be able to live and enjoy God-given time with my church on Family Day. To serving together for many years to come, CERC!
